How Does the Surrogacy Process Work?
Only an agency specializing in how the surrogacy process works can guide you through the steps toward parenthood. At New Beginnings Surrogacy, we offer a warm, inviting and enjoyable experience during your journey as an Intended Parent. At New Beginnings, we work with Intended Parents, Surrogates, fertility specialists, and legal counsel to create a fair and equitable contract between all parties. We go above and beyond to make sure that all parties’ rights are protected. Our goal is to ensure that the entire surrogacy process goes as smoothly as possible.
Similar to the process involved in IVF using donor eggs, the intended parents and potential gestational surrogate are thoroughly screened medically and psychologically for optimum matching.
- In-depth review of medical records
- In-depth psychological evaluation
- Physical and medical testing
A gestational mother carries the intended parents’ baby to full term. Most people choose gestational surrogacy over continuing to risk the high cost of repeated failed IVF procedures. In some circumstances the intended mother may have viable eggs but it may be too dangerous for her to carry a baby to full term.
After the perfect match between Intended Parents and their Surrogate has been finalized, the next step is to begin the IVF process with a fertility specialist. This entails synchronizing the menstrual cycles of the intended mother and surrogate mother through medications suppressing their natural hormone production. Replacement hormones are administered to mimic the stages of a normal cycle in a controlled manner using estrogen and progesterone.
The intended mother then undergoes a series of fertility medication to stimulate her egg follicle growth and induce the maturation of several eggs for surgical retrieval.
Through IVF, the intended mother’s eggs are retrieved and fertilized with the intended father’s sperm in vitro (in a lab). Once the resulting embryos have developed to a quality stage in a controlled laboratory, a predetermined number are transferred to the gestational mother’s uterus for implantation.
The surrogate mother then carries the pregnancy to full term. The intended parents are intimately involved with the pregnancy and are present at the birth of the baby to assume parenting responsibilities.
Gestational surrogacy may be achieved in a variety of methods using:
- Intended mother’s eggs
- Donor eggs
- Intended father’s sperm
- Donor sperm
